Attorney Janusz Piotr Kolczyński: 9th Term Arbiter in the new Copyright Commission

14.03.2019

On 12 March 2019, information about the new composition of the 9th Term Copyright Commission was published in the Official Journal of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage and on the websites of the Public Information Bulletin. We are pleased to announce that Attorney Janusz Piotr Kolczyński, the managing partner of the Law Firm, is among 20 arbiters appointed by Minister Professor Piotr Gliński.

It is necessary to remember that the legal basis for operation of the Copyright Commission is the Act on Collective Management of Copyright and Related Rights of 15 June 2018 (Polish Journal of Laws [Dz.U.] of 2018, item 1293) and its competence includes approval of tables of remuneration for authors and mediation in disputes with users of copyright and related rights.

The Commission is composed of persons with adequate knowledge and professional experience in the area of copyright and related rights. The Commission arbiters are appointed by the minister competent for the issues of culture and protection of national heritage among candidates presented by:

  • organisations of collective management and associations of authors, artists - performers, publishers and producers (10 arbiters);
  • organisations bringing together entities that use works or objects of related rights and radio and television organisations (10 arbiters).

The catalogue of the Commission’s tasks is clearly specified and you can read more about them in the commentary of Attorney Kolczyński available here.
